Bathroom Exhaust Fan Installation

Bathroom Exhaust Fan Installation & Replacement in Tacoma & Western Washington

Bathroom exhaust fan installation in Tacoma home

A properly vented bathroom exhaust fan controls moisture, prevents mold, and protects your walls and ceiling. Washington State's damp climate makes this especially important โ€” an undersized, improperly vented, or failed exhaust fan leads to mold and rot over time. Short Stop Electrical LLC installs and replaces bathroom exhaust fans throughout Tacoma and Western Washington.

We handle both straightforward replacements (swapping an existing fan in the same location) and new installations where no fan currently exists. New installations require running a new circuit and venting the fan to the exterior โ€” we coordinate both the electrical and the duct routing.

We install standard fans, combination fan/light/heater units, humidity-sensing fans, and timer-switched fans. Every install is properly vented to the exterior per Washington State code.

Frequently asked questions

Does bathroom exhaust fan installation require a permit?

A direct replacement (same size fan, same location) typically doesn't require a permit in most Washington jurisdictions. Adding a new fan where none existed, or running a new circuit, does require a permit. We'll clarify this for your specific situation.

Can I run a bathroom exhaust fan into the attic instead of outside?

No โ€” this is a code violation. Venting into the attic dumps moisture directly into your attic insulation and framing, causing mold and rot. All exhaust fans must vent to the exterior through a properly sealed duct and exterior vent cap. We correct improperly vented fans regularly.

What CFM exhaust fan do I need?

The minimum recommendation is 1 CFM per square foot of bathroom floor area, with a minimum of 50 CFM for small bathrooms. A 100 sq ft bathroom needs at least a 100 CFM fan. We'll recommend the right size based on your bathroom dimensions and ceiling height.
