Recessed Lighting Installation
Recessed LED Lighting Installation & Retrofit Across Tacoma & Western Washington
Recessed lighting transforms a room โ adding clean, modern illumination without the bulk of surface-mounted fixtures. Whether you're updating a dark living room, brightening a kitchen, or adding task lighting to a home office, Short Stop Electrical LLC installs recessed can lights and LED retrofit kits throughout homes in Tacoma and Western Washington.
We handle everything from layout planning (spacing, trim style, and beam angle) to wiring new circuits or extending existing ones, installing dimmer switches, and patching the ceiling around each can. LED retrofit kits let us add recessed lighting to existing ceilings without cutting open the ceiling โ just a 4" or 6" hole per light.
Our installations are clean, straight, and finished. We clean up after ourselves and leave your home looking better than we found it.

Frequently asked questions
Can you add recessed lighting without tearing up my ceiling?
In most cases, yes. LED retrofit kits and remodel-style recessed cans install through a small hole in the ceiling with no major demo. We fish wiring through the attic or ceiling cavity. If there's no attic access, we'll assess the best approach and let you know before starting.
How many recessed lights do I need per room?
The general rule is one 4"โ6" can per 4โ6 square feet of ceiling in task areas, or one per 25โ35 sq ft for ambient light. A 12x14 ft living room typically needs 6โ8 cans. We'll do a layout recommendation during your free estimate.
What's the difference between IC-rated and non-IC-rated cans?
IC-rated (Insulation Contact) cans can be covered by attic insulation without a fire risk โ required in most Washington homes with insulated ceilings. Non-IC cans must be kept clear of insulation. We always use the right type for your ceiling assembly.
