Outdoor & Landscape Lighting Installation in Tacoma & Western Washington

Landscape path lighting installation in Tacoma yard

Good outdoor lighting does three things: it keeps your family safe after dark, deters intruders, and makes your home look its best. Short Stop Electrical LLC installs exterior and landscape lighting throughout Tacoma and Western Washington โ€” from front porch fixtures to full pathway and garden lighting systems.

We run low-voltage or line-voltage wiring for path lights, spotlights, uplighting, soffit and eave lights, and step lights. We also install weatherproof GFCI outlets for outdoor use โ€” required for any exterior outlet within 25 feet of finished grade. All exterior wiring uses outdoor-rated conduit and weatherproof boxes.

Our licensed electricians pull all required permits for exterior electrical work and schedule the final inspection โ€” so you're covered if you ever sell your home.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for outdoor lighting in Tacoma?

Generally yes for any new 120V circuits, new outdoor outlets, or work that involves the panel. Low-voltage landscape lighting (12V transformer systems) typically doesn't require a permit. We'll let you know what applies to your specific project.

What's the difference between low-voltage and line-voltage landscape lighting?

Low-voltage systems (12V) use a transformer and are generally DIY-friendly for the fixtures themselves, but the transformer still needs a properly wired outdoor outlet. Line-voltage systems (120V) are brighter and more flexible but require a licensed electrician for all wiring. We install both.

Can you add an outdoor outlet to the exterior of my house?

Yes. Outdoor outlets need to be GFCI-protected and in weatherproof (in-use) covers. We run a new circuit or extend an existing indoor circuit to add outlets on your deck, patio, garage exterior, or yard.
